Joever
An internet slang blend of Joe and over, originally mocking Joe Biden's political prospects, now used broadly to declare that anything is definitively finished.
Explanation
The word originated on 4chan in October 2020, ahead of the US presidential election, as a caption on an image of a dejected Biden, itself inspired by a 2016 Huffington Post graphic declaring IT'S OVER for Donald Trump. The meme resurfaced heavily in July 2024 when Biden withdrew from the presidential race, spreading widely across social media. Its use has since broadened well beyond politics to casual, often humorous declarations that a situation, game, or storyline has reached an irreversible end. The term is a useful marker for marketers of how quickly political memes get absorbed into general internet vocabulary and social content.
Usage context / examples
Following Biden's July 2024 withdrawal from the presidential race, Joever trended heavily across X and TikTok as users declared the moment definitively joever.
