Lazy Girl Job

A well-paid, low-stress job with strong work-life balance, popularized on TikTok as a rejection of hustle culture rather than literal laziness.

Explanation

The term was coined in May 2023 by TikTok creator Gabrielle Judge, who described it as a deliberately provocative label for jobs, often nontechnical corporate roles like marketing, account management, or customer success, that pay reasonably well (commonly cited in the 60,000 to 80,000 US dollar range), allow remote or flexible work, and do not demand that work become a person's whole identity. Judge has said the name was intentionally a marketing gimmick meant to spark conversation about toxic workplace expectations and burnout, not a call to actually do less good work. For marketers, particularly employer brand and HR communications teams, it reflects a broader post-pandemic shift in what younger workers, especially Gen Z, say they want from a job: boundaries and balance over prestige or hustle.

Usage context / examples

A company promoting an open customer success role might emphasize flexible hours and manageable workload in the job listing, language that echoes the lazy girl job trend's appeal to work-life balance.
