Trust Dividend
The long-term business return, in loyalty, wallet share, and lifetime value, that comes from a brand deliberately building consumer trust.
Explanation
The Trust Dividend describes the tangible payoff, increased customer loyalty, higher share of wallet, cross-selling opportunities, and higher customer lifetime value, that results from a brand consistently acting on authentic purpose and delivering trustworthy customer experiences. It reframes trust-building as a measurable business driver rather than a soft or optional value, although linking trust to financial outcomes remains a real measurement challenge for CFOs and marketers alike. It also ties responsible, transparent use of AI and customer data directly to whether that trust is gained or lost.
Usage context / examples
Linda Boff, Global CMO of GE, described on the Building Better CMOs podcast (hosted by Greg Stuart) how GE's purpose of powering a third of the world and reaching billions of patients builds pride and trust. Other examples: Lisa Caputo of Travelers on the value of "care," Andy Rebhun of Cava on authenticity and consistency driving trust and trial, Ravi Kandikonda of Zillow on best products being the best brands, and the fact that T-Mobile's CMO spends 70% of their time on customer experience.
