JOMO
"Joy of Missing Out," the contentment that comes from opting out of social obligations or constant online activity, in contrast to FOMO.
Explanation
JOMO was coined by writer Anil Dash in a 2012 blog post as a deliberate counterpoint to FOMO (fear of missing out), a term Patrick McGinnis had introduced in 2004. Where FOMO describes anxiety about missing events or updates, JOMO describes the relief and satisfaction of stepping back from that pressure and choosing presence over constant connectivity. The concept tracks a real consumer shift toward digital wellbeing, slower travel, and mindful consumption, and it has shaped campaigns in wellness, hospitality, and lifestyle categories that sell disconnection as a benefit rather than a loss.
