Memevertising
A marketing technique that uses popular internet memes and humor to promote a brand and connect with online audiences.
Explanation
Memevertising, also called memetic marketing, involves brands adapting or referencing viral memes in their content to feel current, relatable, and shareable rather than promotional. It grew alongside the rise of meme culture on social platforms in the 2010s and is used mainly in social media marketing, where humor and cultural relevance can spread a message further than a conventional ad. For marketers, it can generate organic reach and audience goodwill cheaply, but it carries real risk: memes date quickly, and a brand using one poorly or too late can come across as forced or out of touch.
