Queenager

A blend of "queen" and "teenager" used for confident, stylish, middle-aged and older women who embrace their age rather than hide it.

Explanation

Queenager was proposed by Alyson Walsh, journalist and founder of the style blog That's Not My Age, in a 2020 post arguing that older women deserve a more empowering label than "pensioner" or "OAP." The term reframes midlife and later life as a period of self-assurance and personal style rather than decline. The term names a large, high-spending demographic that fashion, beauty, and wellness brands have historically underserved or stereotyped; campaigns built around it position older women as aspirational rather than invisible.

Usage context / examples

That's Not My Age itself functions as a case study: Walsh built the blog and its "Queen-Ager" language into a recognized platform and community for stylish women over 50, which brands and retailers now reference when discussing this audience.

Turkish definition

"Queen" (kraliçe) ve "teenager" kelimelerinin birleşiminden oluşan, yaşını saklamak yerine özgüvenle sahiplenen orta yaş ve üzeri kadınları tanımlayan terim.
